The 2016 original

Buffalo Blitz is one of the older online buffalo games in this guide, and it still feels like the cleanest. Six reels, four rows, 4,096 ways. Buffalo symbols land stacked, so a full reel of them is common, and a diamond wild covers reels two to six. Three, four, five or six scatters award 8, 15, 25 or 100 free spins, and two or more scatters during the round retrigger between 5 and 100 more. In free spins the diamond wild multiplies the win by x2, x3 or x5.

Playtech treats it as a flagship title in its own press, but publishes no spec sheet. The RTP is 95.96% at Slotcatalog and American Casino Guide, 96.49% at Racing Post, and the likely reason is that several builds exist. No max win is published. Bets run from 0.40 to 80. Reviewers and US operators agree on high volatility.

In the US, the only confirmed form is FanDuel’s Buffalo Blitz Jackpot edition in Michigan, which adds progressives to the base game. The Michigan casino guide lists the licensed casinos in that state.

Buffalo Blitz II

The 2020 sequel keeps the 6x4 base and adds WaysBoost: in free spins the grid expands to 4-5-6-6-5-4, raising the count from 4,096 to up to 14,400 ways. Three or more scatters award 8 to 100 free spins, with x2, x3 or x5 wild multipliers as before. Slotcatalog gives 95.96% RTP (one casino site claims 96.96%, an outlier) and a 10,000x max win, while Paddy Power describes payouts “topping 1,500X”. Volatility is high at Slotcatalog and medium at FanDuel.

FanDuel in Michigan carries it, and BetMGM has reviewed it on its blog. It has no separate review on this site.

Buffalo Blitz Megaways

The 2021 Megaways edition is the most complex game in the series and the least documented. Each of six reels shows two to seven symbols, for 324 to 117,649 ways. Four, five or six scatters lead to a choice of modes: Blitz (10 to 20 spins), Thunder (8 to 16), Buffalo (6 to 12) or a mystery pick, with wild multipliers from x2 to x10 depending on the mode. Retriggers can run a single round up to 1,000 spins.

Jackpot Blitz sits on top: four progressive prizes that Slotcatalog lists as seeding at $50, $500, $5,000 and $100,000. Slotcatalog puts the RTP at 96.29%, with 0.99% of that feeding the progressive pots, while Paddy Power and Swiss4Win list 95.19% to 95.30%. The max win is 20,000x by one source and 10,000x by another. This is the one Playtech buffalo game where the data is thin enough to treat every number as provisional.

Buffalo Blitz Megaways is not confirmed at any US casino. The Buffalo Blitz vs Buffalo Blitz Megaways comparison shows what the Megaways move changes, and the Megaways hub places it among the six buffalo Megaways titles.

How the three differ on paper

The series runs on close returns and very different ceilings. By their headline figures all three games sit near 96%: 95.96% for the original and for Buffalo Blitz II at slotcatalog, 96.29% for the Megaways edition. The maximum wins spread out much further. The original has no clean published figure at all. Buffalo Blitz II is listed at 10,000x by slotcatalog, against Paddy Power’s “topping 1,500X”. Buffalo Blitz Megaways reaches 20,000x at one source and half that at another.

Stake ranges widen with each release. The original runs 0.40 to 80 at slotcatalog. Buffalo Blitz II goes from 0.20 to 250 there, though FanDuel caps it at 150. The Megaways edition is listed at £0.10 to £200. Volatility is the one constant, high for all three at slotcatalog, with FanDuel’s medium rating for Buffalo Blitz II the only dissent.

Next to the Aristocrat family

Buffalo Blitz is a six-reel reply to the five-reel Aristocrat original. Aristocrat’s Buffalo runs 1,024 ways on a 5x4 grid, Buffalo Blitz 4,096 on 6x4. Aristocrat’s free games stop at 20 for five scatters; Playtech’s ladder carries on to 25 and then 100 for six. The multipliers go a step further too, x2, x3 or x5 on the diamond wild where Aristocrat’s sunset wild offers 2x or 3x.

What the Playtech line lacks is a floor presence. Both reviewed Buffalo Blitz games are online-only, with no cabinet behind them. The Aristocrat family also reaches further in the US: the original Buffalo is online in New Jersey, and Buffalo Chief and Buffalo Gold Max Power are confirmed in all four online casino states. Playtech’s buffalo games stop at Michigan.

The closest relative outside the series is Pragmatic Play’s Buffalo King from 2019. It uses the same 6x4 grid, the same 8, 15, 25 or 100 free spins ladder and the same x2, x3 or x5 wild values. The difference lies in how several wilds combine: Buffalo King multiplies them together, while no source describes Buffalo Blitz stacking its diamond wilds that way.

Checking the edition in Michigan

The Michigan listing is a jackpot build, and that changes how its return is divided. Progressive pots are paid for out of the game’s RTP; on the Megaways game, slotcatalog puts that share at 0.99% of the 96.29%. FanDuel does not publish the split for its Buffalo Blitz Jackpot edition, so the figure in the game’s help screen is the one to read before playing. Stakes on that edition run from $0.40 to $200, wider than the $80 top bet listed for the plain game. Play is limited to players located in Michigan and aged 21 or over.

Where the series stands

Buffalo Blitz ranks seventh in the best buffalo slots list, held back by the missing max win and its single-state US presence. Across the three games the core idea barely moves: stacked buffalo, a wild that multiplies in free spins, and in the first two a scatter ladder that scales the round from 8 to 100 spins. The Megaways edition is the only one that swaps that ladder for a choice of modes. Later spin-offs exist outside this guide, among them a Cash Collect edition from 2025.

Questions

Is Buffalo Blitz available at US online casinos?

In one form. FanDuel in Michigan carries a Buffalo Blitz Jackpot edition with progressives, and FanDuel's Michigan lobby also lists Buffalo Blitz II. No regulated US casino page was found for Buffalo Blitz Megaways. None of the three is confirmed in New Jersey, Pennsylvania or West Virginia on the evidence gathered for this guide.

Why are the Playtech buffalo figures less certain than other providers'?

Playtech publishes no spec page for these games, so every RTP, bet range and max win comes from reviewers or casino pages. They do not always agree: Buffalo Blitz is listed at 95.96% by Slotcatalog and 96.49% by Racing Post, and Buffalo Blitz Megaways at 96.29% by Slotcatalog and 95.19% to 95.30% by two casinos.

How many free spins can Buffalo Blitz Megaways give?

The round starts with a choice after four, five or six scatters: Blitz gives 10 to 20 spins, Thunder 8 to 16, Buffalo 6 to 12, or a mystery pick. Retriggers can extend the round up to a maximum of 1,000 spins. Each mode pairs fewer spins with larger wild multipliers, from x2 up to x10.

What is Buffalo Blitz Live?

A 2020 spin-off built on the original game. Playtech's press describes Buffalo Blitz as a flagship title and names it as the basis of the Live edition. It is a separate product and is not reviewed on this site; the slot reviews cover Buffalo Blitz and Buffalo Blitz Megaways.
