NJ Online Slots: The Buffalo Games at Licensed New Jersey Casinos

New Jersey has the deepest buffalo catalogue of the four states this site covers, with eight titles confirmed. Every licensed site is tied to an Atlantic City casino and approved by the Division of Gaming Enforcement.

How the DGE licenses online casinos

New Jersey’s model is the strictest of the four about where a brand comes from. Every online casino has to operate under an Atlantic City casino license. The brand on the screen is often a separate company, but the license behind it belongs to a casino on the boardwalk or the marina.

The Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) publishes the result on its Internet Gaming Sites page. Nine Atlantic City properties appear there as licensees: Borgata, Bally’s Atlantic City, Caesars Interactive Entertainment’s three properties (Boardwalk Regency, Harrah’s and Tropicana), Golden Nugget, Hard Rock, Ocean Resort and Resorts. Borgata alone stands behind five brands, BetMGM, Borgata Online, PartyCasino, Wheel of Fortune Casino and Stardust. Resorts backs DraftKings, Mohegan Sun and theScore Bet, among others.

The list is long, with more than two dozen casino brands on it, and it moves. Ember Casino, a Delaware North brand, launched in New Jersey in June 2026 under the Boardwalk Regency license. PokerStars NJ still appears on the page, even though its standalone platform closed on April 1, 2026 and moved onto FanDuel.

Not every brand runs the same catalogue, which is where the buffalo question starts.

Buffalo titles confirmed in New Jersey

Eight buffalo games have regulated evidence for New Jersey, more than any other state. Aristocrat supplies five of them.

The original Buffalo is the one with history here. Its first online launch anywhere was at BetMGM in New Jersey on September 5, 2023, and today BetMGM, FanDuel, DraftKings and Borgata list it. New Jersey is still the only state confirmed for it. The same goes for Buffalo Gold Revolution, the jackpot-wheel follow-up to Buffalo Gold, which FanDuel, DraftKings and Caesars Palace Online carry. For anyone looking at NJ online slots from the Aristocrat series, those two are the titles that cannot yet be confirmed in the other three states.

Buffalo Gold Max Power also started in New Jersey: Aristocrat Interactive launched it there on December 13, 2024, with up to 46,656 ways on reels that change height every spin. Buffalo Chief and Buffalo Triple Power complete the Aristocrat group, both available at BetMGM in the state.

The other three come from different studios. Buffalo King Megaways from Pragmatic Play appears at Caesars Palace Online, Golden Nugget, BetMGM, Borgata and Hard Rock Bet in a third-party tracker’s New Jersey listing, and the same tracker reports Hard Rock Bet running a 94.10% build. Almighty Buffalo Megaways has a White Hat Studios page naming New Jersey among its regions, and Tropicana lists it. Thundering Buffalo, from High 5 Games, is confirmed at BetMGM.

A brand carrying one of these titles in another state is not proof that its New Jersey lobby has it. Lobbies are approved per state, and the game page inside the New Jersey site is the final word.

Return and stake differences between New Jersey lobbies

The same title can pay back differently from one New Jersey site to the next, because operators choose between the versions a provider ships. Buffalo is the clearest case: BetMGM’s game page shows 94.72%, while BetMGM’s own blog and Borgata quote 94.85%. Buffalo Chief reads 94.03% on OLG and 95% in BetMGM’s review, and Buffalo Gold Max Power exists at both 94.11% and 95.8%.

Stakes move too. FanDuel takes Buffalo Gold Revolution from $0.75 up to $300 a spin. Buffalo Chief tops out at $100 on FanDuel and at $50 in BetMGM’s review, and Buffalo Gold Max Power at $30 on FanDuel against $90 at BetMGM. A player who prefers one game should compare its info screen at two licensed sites before settling on either.

Age, location and the sign-up checks

The minimum age for online casino play in New Jersey is 21. The law treats it differently from pari-mutuel wagering and the lottery, where 18 is enough, so a player who can buy a lottery ticket at 19 still cannot open a casino account.

Location matters more than address. A licensed site runs a geolocation check before real-money play, and it will refuse a device that sits on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River or across the Hudson in New York. Visitors from any state can play while they are inside New Jersey.

Sign-up asks for a name, date of birth and identity details, and the site verifies them before accepting a deposit. A site that skips those steps for a New Jersey player is not one of the DGE’s licensees.

Checking a site against the DGE list

The quickest test is to compare the address in the browser with the DGE page. Licensed brands tend to show the state in their address, such as nj.betmgm.com, nj.betrivers.com or caesarspalaceonline.com/us/nj/. Some brands are listed under more than one domain, such as Golden Nugget, whose secondary address nj-casino.goldennuggetcasino.com also appears.

The licensee column helps as well. If a brand names a partner casino, that casino should appear next to it on the list. A brand with no Atlantic City partner has no New Jersey license.

Help, self-exclusion and the warning text

New Jersey writes its warning message into regulation. Advertising has to carry two phrases: “Bet with your head, not over it”, and “If you or someone you know has a gambling problem and wants help, call 1-800-GAMBLER”. The helpline behind that number belongs to the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, which has run it since 1983. The state’s problem-gambling page on the National Council on Problem Gambling site lists further help in New Jersey.

A 2025 state law also banned sweepstakes casinos, so the only legal route to NJ online slots for real money is a DGE-licensed site.

For a break that the player cannot reverse on impulse, the DGE runs a self-exclusion program. Enrollment is through the DGE, the player picks the length of the exclusion, and every licensed New Jersey site must refuse the account for that period. The responsible gambling page covers limits and exclusion in more detail.

One New Jersey rule shows up on the screen without being asked for: once an account’s lifetime deposits pass $2,500, the site pauses wagering until the player confirms the threshold, the option to set limits or close the account, and the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline.

New Jersey questions

Can someone from Pennsylvania or New York play NJ online slots?

Yes, as long as they are 21 or older and physically inside New Jersey while they play. Residency does not matter. The licensed site checks the device location before real-money play. A player who crosses back over the state line loses access to New Jersey games until the device is inside the state again.

Is Buffalo King Megaways available in New Jersey?

Yes. Buffalo King Megaways is confirmed in New Jersey, with Caesars Palace Online, Golden Nugget, BetMGM, Borgata and Hard Rock Bet named by a third-party tracker. Hard Rock Bet is reported to run a 94.10% build there, below the provider's 96.52% version, so the info screen in the lobby is the figure to check before playing.

Why is PokerStars NJ still on the DGE list?

The DGE's Internet Gaming Sites page still showed pokerstarsnj.com when it was last checked, but the standalone platform shut down on April 1, 2026 and moved onto FanDuel. A regulator list can trail a market change by some months. For that reason the brand is not treated as an active New Jersey casino here.

What happens when a New Jersey account passes $2,500 in deposits?

Once lifetime deposits pass $2,500, the operator has to pause further wagering until the player acknowledges three things: that the threshold has been reached, that responsible gaming limits can be set or the account closed, and that the 1-800-GAMBLER helpline is available. It is a platform step required by New Jersey rules, and every licensed site runs it.
