Verdict: Buffalo Ultimate Stampede puts a hold-and-spin round with something to build next to the classic Buffalo free games, on one cabinet. Little of its math is published.
A familiar name on a different game
The Stampede name has been on Buffalo cabinets since 2013, and Buffalo Stampede was a classic all-ways game with a progressive and growing reels in free games. Buffalo Ultimate Stampede keeps the name and almost nothing else from it. Its centerpiece is a hold-and-spin bonus, the kind of round that Buffalo Link brought to the family in 2021, with one twist: the prizes you collect open more rows on the grid.
Aristocrat showed the game at G2E in October 2023. One secondary source dates it to 2024, which likely reflects when it spread across casino floors. The Buffalo slots timeline uses 2023, the year of the premiere.
Cash-on-Reel and the meter
In the base game, Cash-on-Reel symbols land on the reels and fill a bonus meter. They are the thread that ties the cabinet together: they count toward the meter in the base game, and they are the prizes in the bonus round. Aristocrat has not published how full the meter needs to be, what fills it fastest or what the Cash-on-Reel values are, so this page does not guess at any of those numbers.
The Ultimate Stampede bonus
When the bonus triggers, the game switches to a hold-and-spin round. Cash-on-Reel prizes collected in the round open extra rows on the grid, so a round that starts small can grow taller as it goes. More rows mean more positions where prizes can land, and a round that keeps collecting keeps opening space for more.
That mechanic changes the usual rhythm of a hold-and-spin bonus. On most respin rounds, the grid is fixed and the question is only how much of it fills. Here the grid itself is part of the prize, and the early respins matter more than they would on a fixed screen, because every prize collected early adds room for the rest of the round. Aristocrat has not published how many rows the grid can reach, the maximum layout or the number of respins, so the exact ceiling of the round is unknown.
The classic free games are still there
Alongside the hold-and-spin round, the cabinet keeps the classic Buffalo free games. They come with sunset multipliers on the wilds, the feature that has defined Buffalo bonus rounds since 2008, and they carry a chance to trigger the Ultimate Stampede from inside the free games. The sunset wild substitutes in the usual way.
Having both on one machine is the same approach Buffalo Link took: the respin round for players who want jackpots and visible progress, and the free games for players who grew up on the original Buffalo. On Ultimate Stampede, the link between the two is tighter, since the free games can lead straight into the hold-and-spin round.
Next to Buffalo Link and Buffalo Cash
Ultimate Stampede is the third Aristocrat Buffalo cabinet built around a hold-and-spin round, and the other two make a useful reference. Buffalo Link, from 2021, triggers its Hold & Spin with eight or more Buffalo, starts with three respins that reset on every new Buffalo, and pays the Grand for a full screen of 20. Its grid is a fixed 5x4. Buffalo Cash, shown later the same year, is the higher-denomination version of Link at 5c and 10c, with solo and linked progressive options and a Grand that Aristocrat says can reach $200,000.
Both of those games keep the size of the grid constant, so the bonus is about filling a known space. Ultimate Stampede makes the space itself grow with the prizes collected. Both older games also add a must-hit-by meter that awards a feature before 1,800 Buffalo are collected; Ultimate Stampede’s meter is fed by Cash-on-Reel symbols instead, and its trigger point is not published. For a player who already likes Buffalo Link, the newer game is the obvious one to try next, with the caveat that far less of its math is on record.
What is not published
Buffalo Ultimate Stampede is thinly documented. Aristocrat has not published the reel layout or the ways count, and no regulated source has either. The jackpot ladder is described by secondary sources as four levels, Mini, Minor, Major and Grand, with no published values. The multiplier values on the sunset wilds in free games are not on record. Anyone who wants those details will find them only in the help screens of an installed machine.
The return to player is set by each casino from Aristocrat’s range of math options, within the rules of its jurisdiction, so there is no single RTP and this page shows none. One review site lists 95.03% without a source, and that figure is not used here. Aristocrat publishes no volatility rating for any Buffalo title, this one included. The denomination and bet levels are also set per casino, so the cost of a spin on one floor says nothing about the cost on another.
Where Ultimate Stampede leads
The game is the parent of a newer branch. Buffalo Mega Stampede followed it, and in August 2026 the launch of Buffalo Mega Stampede Grand was reported, the latest step in the line. That makes Ultimate Stampede the point where the Stampede name moved from a classic free-games cabinet to the hold-and-spin format that Aristocrat has leaned on since Buffalo Link. Other hold-and-spin Buffalo games from several studios are listed on the hold and win hub.
Buffalo Ultimate Stampede is a land cabinet with no confirmed online release. It is absent from the licensed US online casinos, and the online Buffalo titles that Aristocrat Interactive announced through 2024 stop short of it. The full Aristocrat family, floor and online, is on the Aristocrat provider page.
Ultimate Stampede carries a bonus meter fed by Cash-on-Reel symbols, which sets it apart from the 2013 Buffalo Stampede, whose documented features are reel growth in free games and a two-level single-site progressive.
