The free games every sequel keeps
Any Aristocrat Buffalo game, from the 2008 cabinet onward (Max Power stretches the top award to 25 games for six scatters), will eventually hand you the same bonus: coin scatters, 8, 15 or 20 free games for three, four or five of them, and wilds that carry 2x or 3x and multiply each other when two land in one win. Aristocrat has rebuilt the base game around that round many times without touching its core. The sunset wild in the original became a sunrise wild in Buffalo Ascension, the wilds spread to reel 5 in Buffalo Cash, and Buffalo Grand made the free games unlimited through retriggers. The skeleton never changed.
That consistency is the main reason the family holds together from 2008 to today and across several cabinet generations. It is also why a player who knows one Aristocrat Buffalo game can read the rest in minutes. The differences sit in what each sequel adds, which is usually a collection mechanic, a jackpot route or a reel that grows.
Five Aristocrat Buffalo games you can play online
The online era started late. The original reached its first online casino on September 5, 2023, when BetMGM in New Jersey launched a version built by Anaxi. Five titles in this guide are now confirmed at regulated US casinos:
The original Buffalo runs 5x4 with 1,024 ways at a 94.72% RTP (OLG and BetMGM’s game page; 94.85% at reviewers) and a 300x max win at BetMGM and DraftKings. It is confirmed in New Jersey only.
Buffalo Gold Revolution launched Aristocrat’s MarsX cabinet in 2019 and adds a wheel bonus that can award progressive jackpots. Online it runs at 95.05% with a 1,000x max win, confirmed in New Jersey.
Buffalo Chief, called “the newest evolution” of the brand at its February 2020 premiere, has a 4-6-6-6-4 grid and the Mystery Gigantic Stampede that expands the middle reels to ten rows. OLG lists 94.03% and BetMGM 95%. It is confirmed in all four states.
Buffalo Triple Power debuted at IGA in March 2023 and stacks three free games features (Buffalo Rising, Buffalo Gold and Buffalo Bucks) that can combine. BetMGM lists 95.50%, and it is confirmed in New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Buffalo Gold Max Power went live in New Jersey on December 13, 2024 and now appears in all four states. Its reels show two to six symbols each, for up to 46,656 ways and a 12,995x max win.
Buffalo Gold itself is not on that list. Its online counterpart is a separate title, Buffalo Gold Collection, which BetMGM carries in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia at 95.5%; BetMGM files its Buffalo Gold game under that name.
The cabinets that stay on the floor
Eight Aristocrat Buffalo titles have no confirmed online release. Their reviews are guides to the machines as they appear in casinos, never claims about online play.
Buffalo Gold, dated to about 2013 by secondary sources, introduced the Gold Buffalo heads: collected in free games, they upgrade picture symbols to buffalo after 3, 6, 9 and up to 15 heads. That mechanic now runs through Gold Revolution, Max Power and Triple Power. Buffalo Stampede, on floors by late 2013 or early 2014, started its own line with a two-level single-site progressive and led to Ultimate Stampede (shown at G2E in 2023) and the Mega Stampede games.
Buffalo Grand premiered at Station Casinos on September 28, 2015 on the larger Arc double cabinet, with a bonus wheel that spins for a 2x to 10x multiplier. Buffalo Diamond marked the tenth anniversary at G2E 2018 on a 4-5-6-5-4 diamond-shaped reel set with 2,400 ways and a persistent free games multiplier. Buffalo Ascension launched the Neptune Single cabinet at NIGA 2022, with middle reels that grow from four to seven rows and stay there, up to 5,488 ways.
Then the hold-and-spin turn. Buffalo Link arrived in 2021 on MarsX Portrait, putting the buffalo theme on the Lightning Link and Dragon Link engine: eight or more buffalo start three respins, and 20 buffalo win the Grand. Buffalo Cash, shown at G2E 2021, is its higher-denomination version, and Aristocrat says its Grand “can reach” $200,000.
Aristocrat Buffalo titles without a review here
The thirteen reviewed games are not the whole family. Aristocrat keeps extending successful cabinets with variants, and several of them turn up on floors under names close enough to cause confusion. Buffalo Grand was followed by Buffalo Grand Deluxe and Buffalo Grand Express. Buffalo Diamond has a Buffalo Diamond Extreme, dated 2023 by a secondary source. Buffalo Triple Power led to Buffalo Quad Power and Buffalo Triple Boost, and the Stampede line runs on through Buffalo Mega Stampede to Buffalo Mega Stampede Grand, reported as launched in August 2026.
Buffalo Deluxe is the hardest to place. Its release year is not verified, though it was on the market by September 2014 and forms part of the Wonder 4 Jackpots cabinet. Lightning Buffalo Link (2023) is likewise a separate game from Buffalo Link, with its own maths. Honestly, the naming is a mess, and the safest habit on a casino floor is to read the full title on the cabinet before assuming it plays like the game reviewed here.
RTP and volatility on Aristocrat games
None of the floor cabinets has a published RTP. The casino or jurisdiction configures each machine from a range of maths options, so two Buffalo Grand cabinets on different floors can return different amounts. Aristocrat publishes no volatility label for any Buffalo game either, online or land. The labels shown for the online games come from operators: FanDuel calls the original “High”, OLG calls Buffalo Chief “high-variability”, BetMGM calls it “medium-high”. Treat them as opinions.
For the online games, the RTPs on this site come from OLG in Ontario, the one regulated source that lists RTP, bet range and max win together, checked against BetMGM. Where the two disagree, both figures appear on the review.
Questions
What does Aristocrat call the 1,024-ways format of Buffalo?
Xtra Reel Power. On a 5x4 grid it counts every matching symbol on adjacent reels from the left, which gives 1,024 ways. Buffalo, Buffalo Gold, Buffalo Stampede and Buffalo Gold Revolution all use it. Later games moved away from fixed grids: Buffalo Chief runs 4-6-6-6-4 and Buffalo Gold Max Power varies each reel between two and six symbols.
Which company builds the online Aristocrat Buffalo games?
Aristocrat Interactive, the group's online division. Operator pages still use the names of the studios it absorbed: Caesars credits Buffalo Gold Revolution to Anaxi, BetMGM credits Buffalo Gold Max Power's online studio as Roxor, and BetMGM lists Buffalo Triple Power under Pariplay, which joined with the 2024 NeoGames acquisition. All of them are Aristocrat.
Is Buffalo Link available online?
Not as Buffalo Link. No regulated US online casino and no Aristocrat online release lists it, so it is reviewed as a floor cabinet. Its hold-and-spin bonus, triggered by eight or more buffalo symbols, is the reason players look for it online. Lightning Buffalo Link (2023) is a separate title and not covered by the Buffalo Link review.
What is the newest Aristocrat Buffalo game?
The most recent release in the timeline is Buffalo Mega Stampede Grand, reported as launched in August 2026 after Buffalo Ultimate Stampede and Buffalo Mega Stampede. Online, the most recent title in this guide is Buffalo Gold Max Power, launched in New Jersey on December 13, 2024 as Aristocrat Interactive's fifth online Buffalo game.
