Verdict: Buffalo Diamond keeps the classic free games and adds 2,400 ways on a diamond reel set, with a multiplier that persists through the round. Several feature details rest on secondary sources only.
A birthday cabinet
By 2018 the original Buffalo slot machine had been on casino floors for ten years, and Aristocrat marked the date with a new game. Buffalo Diamond was announced as the 10th Anniversary Edition of Buffalo and launched on the flame55 cabinet at G2E in October 2018, according to Aristocrat’s press release for the show. The Buffalo slots timeline places it between Buffalo Grand in 2015 and Buffalo Gold Revolution in 2019.
An anniversary edition could easily have been a reskin. This one changed the grid. The five reels hold 4, 5, 6, 5 and 4 symbols, so the layout is narrow on the outside and widest on the middle reel, a diamond on its side. Multiply those heights and you get the 2,400 ways the game pays on, more than double the original’s 1,024. Later games kept returning to the shape: Buffalo Triple Power uses the same 4-5-6-5-4 matrix in its Buffalo Rising feature.
The extra ways sit in the middle of the screen. Reels 2, 3 and 4 hold 5, 6 and 5 symbols where the original holds four on each, so a Buffalo that reaches the middle reels has more positions to connect through. The outer reels are still four high, which keeps the first and last steps of a winning way as tight as they always were.
The multiplier that stays
The free games are where Buffalo Diamond earns its reputation, though they are also where the documentation thins out. The round carries a persistent multiplier: once it climbs, it stays at that value for the rest of the feature. Secondary sources report that it reaches 4x, and some describe features running as long as 49 free games at 4x. Aristocrat has no current product page for the game, so those numbers are reports and not provider figures.
A persistent multiplier changes the shape of a bonus. In the classic Buffalo free games, each spin stands on its own: the 2x and 3x wilds multiply that spin and then the slate is clean. On Buffalo Diamond, a feature that gets its multiplier up early is worth more for every spin that follows. Long features are therefore much better than short ones here, more so than on the original.
That is also the frustrating side. A short feature that ends before the multiplier moves can feel like an ordinary Buffalo bonus on a larger grid. Players who chase the long, high-multiplier rounds should expect plenty of short ones on the way.
What is not documented
Aristocrat has published no wild description, no trigger table and no exact rule for how the multiplier climbs on Buffalo Diamond. This page does not fill those gaps with guesses. The help screens on any installed cabinet will show the rules the casino is running.
Playing it next to the original
For anyone who learned on the 2008 game, the base game on Buffalo Diamond takes a few spins to read. Wins still pay left to right across adjacent reels with no lines, and Buffalo are still the symbols to hope for. What feels different is how often a Buffalo on the first two reels keeps going, because reel 3 offers six positions to land on where the original offers four. The cost is that the screen looks busier, and some players who prefer the plain 5x4 grid of the original or of Buffalo Gold never quite settle into it.
The bonus is the bigger change. On the original, a good feature is one with plenty of wilds landing at 2x or 3x. On Diamond, a good feature is one where the multiplier climbs early and the round keeps going, because every later spin pays at the higher level.
The wide-area progressive
Buffalo Diamond runs a wide-area progressive. Wide-area means the jackpot is pooled from linked machines at more than one property, so it can usually grow larger than a single-site progressive like the two-level jackpot on Buffalo Stampede. A Casino City Times video review reported the Buffalo Diamond progressive at $500,000. The live amount moves as players feed and win it, and Aristocrat publishes no fixed value.
RTP and volatility
Buffalo Diamond is a land cabinet. The return to player is set by each casino from a range of math options Aristocrat supplies, within its jurisdiction’s limits, so no single RTP applies and this page shows none. One review site lists the game at 96.7%. That figure carries no source, and it does not appear in any regulated or provider document, so it is not used here.
Aristocrat publishes no volatility rating for any Buffalo title. With a persistent multiplier and a wide-area progressive, most of the game’s value sits in the free games and the jackpot. That design points to big swings, even without a provider rating to confirm it.
Where Buffalo Diamond fits in the family
Buffalo Diamond belongs to the group of sequels that kept the classic Buffalo free games and changed the grid around them. Buffalo Chief did the same two years later with a 4-6-6-6-4 layout and 3,456 ways, and pushed the idea further with a feature that stretches the middle reels to 10 rows. Buffalo Triple Power borrowed the diamond itself: its Buffalo Rising feature expands the reels to the same 4-5-6-5-4 shape.
A follow-up, Buffalo Diamond Extreme, arrived in 2023 according to secondary sources. Buffalo Diamond itself has no confirmed online release. Neither FanDuel nor BetMGM has a page for it, and Aristocrat Interactive did not count it among the online Buffalo games it was running by the end of 2024. For the full set of Aristocrat cabinets and online titles, see the Aristocrat provider page.
On a floor, the reel shape gives Buffalo Diamond away at a glance: the six-symbol center reel stands taller than its neighbors, and the outer reels are the shortest on the screen.
